BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team led by a point at the half, but would fall 72-62 at the end of regulation to Buffalo State.
Renee Park matched her career-high of 22 points, which included six three pointers.
Isabella Wier added 12 points and
Lauren Mickley had 11.
Mary Culeton grabbed 13 rebounds and dealt five assists.
Up 30-22 with just over four minutes left in the second quarter, Buffalo State scored the final nine points to take a 31-30 lead into the half.Â
There were a pair of lead changes early in the second half. Down a point, 36-35, the Devils relied on Park to regain the lead. She scored eight straight points to put the Devils up 43-36. Buffalo State immediately scored the next nine points to regain the lead.Â
Tied at 48-all, the Bengals finished the third quarter by scoring the final five points and securing the lead for good, holding the lead the entire fourth quarter.
The Bengals relied heavily on the duo of Katie Villiarini and Tashawni Cornfield for a combined 57 points. Villiarini led all scorers with 33 points and Cornfield had 24. Cornfield matched Culeton for a game-high 13 rebounds.Â
Buffalo State improves to 12-8 overall, and 10-5 in the conference.
Fredonia State falls to 10-12 overall and 5-10 in the SUNYAC. They are at home Tuesday for a makeup game vs. Brockport in Dods Hall.
