FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team faced a New Paltz squad that entered Dods Hall with a perfect 3-0 mark in the conference and could not break the Hawk's win streak, falling 64-53. The Devils were led by
Mary Culeton and
Amber Louis with 11 points apiece.
Sarah Seaman had 10 points on 3-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Devils came out with energy, taking the early lead against the SUNYAC-leading Hawks. A three by Seaman in the early going put the Devils up 7-4.
Caitlin Snyder hit a basket just before the end of the first to give the Devils a 15-12 lead.
New Paltz took its first lead of the game at the 8:21 mark of the second quarter when Jenny Walton converted a layup to make it 18-17, Hawks.
The Hawks went on to outscore the Devils 21-8 in the second, taking a 33-23 lead at the half.
New Paltz extended the lead outscoring the Devils 19-16 in the third, going up 52-39.
With 2:50 left in the game, the Devils cut the lead to 10 on a layup by Louis, making it 59-49, New Paltz. Louis would have nine of her points in the fourth quarter as the Devils outscored the Hawks, 14-12.
New Paltz (7-3/4-0 SUNYAC) was led by Abby Korzekwinski with 10 points. Nine other Hawks figured in the scoring.
The Devils (3-7/0-5 SUNYAC) return to Dods Hall tomorrow for a Saturday matinee vs. Oneonta, tipping off at 2 p.m.
