Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Devils fall to Hawks

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team dropped a 66-57 contest to visiting New Paltz on Friday evening. AJ Knight led the Devils with 16 points and three steals.

The Hawks jumped out to an 18-14 lead. A three by Fredonia State's Alon Haimovitz and back-to-back buckets by Adesoji Tiamiyu -- one of them a three-point play -- put the Devils in control with a 22-18 lead, their first of the contest.

The teams would trade leads three times before New Paltz settled for a 28-26 lead at the half. Knight would lead the Devils with eight points.

New Paltz tried to stretch its lead, going up by as many as seven points. The battling Devils would use a three from Knight on a fast break to get back to a two-point margin, 38-36, forcing New Paltz into a time out at the 15:20 mark.

Back-to-back threes and a fast break layup then forced Fredonia State to take a timeout with the Hawks up ten, 46-36. The Devils' Aaron Collins nailed a three on the next possesion before back-to-back buckets would leave the Hawks with a double-digit lead as they would take command of the game from there.

Tiamiyu would finish with 10 rebounds, eight points, and two blocks. Haimovitz added nine points.

New Paltz received a game-high 17 points from Jonah Bevacqua and 13 points apiece from Rylan Blondo and Lucas Seyoum. Seyoum was 4-4 from three point range as the Hawks connected on 10-19 three pointers.

The Devils take on Oneonta tomorrow at 4 p.m. as part of a women's/men's doubleheader. It will be their final contest of 2022.
