Dragons top Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team closed out the semester with a 74-62 loss to visiting Oneonta on Saturday. Aaron Collins paced the Devils with 20 points and five assists. Marquis Tubman added 13 points and Jacob Hougan had 10 points. Adesoji Tiamiyu grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and three blocks.

The first half was low scoring with Oneonta taking a 39-23 lead. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc. The Devils shot 1-10 and the Red Dragons were 1-8. Defensive pressure held the Devils to 9-27 shooting (33 percent) from the floor, while the Dragons did not fare much better, hitting on just 13-32 shots (40 percent).

Oneonta held a 22-18 edge in rebounding. They also hit on 12-15 shots from the free-throw line, while the Devils went 4-8.

Hougan led the Devils with eight first-half points, shooting 4-5 from the floor. Caleb Brown led Oneonta with 11.

Oneonta kept up a double-digit lead for most of the second half, but the Devils would make a late run. Collins nailed a long three with 3:58 left to play to bring the Devils to within ten, 67-57. DeAndre Hayes hit the second of two free throws to cut the lead to single digits. Marquis Tubman followed with a put back to make it a seven-point game, 67-60, before the Dragons pulled away down the stretch.

The Red Dragons (8-2/4-1 SUNYAC) had four players in double digits, led by Joseph Bull with 20. Brown finished with a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

The Devils (0-12/0-6) are off until after the winter break Next up is Cortland, on Jan. 6th.
