FREDONIA, N.Y. -- In a game that remained tight the entire way, the Fredonia State men's basketball team was down one point and had possession with 16 seconds left, but could not convert, falling to Brockport, 60-59. The duo of
AJ Knight and
Aaron Collins continued to produce offensively for the Blue Devils. Knight turned in an all-around effort, leading the team with 16 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Collins finished with 15 points on 5-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
Brockport took the early lead and would be up 16-11 in the early going. The Devils took their first lead, 20-16, with a 9-0 run that was bookended by three pointers from Knight.
Brockport would eventually tie the game at 22.
A three by Collins with 10:19 on the clock would give the Devils the lead that they would maintain at the intermission, 33-30.
Neither team would pull away in the second half. The biggest lead for both teams would be just five points. The Devils tried to take command with a 54-49 lead. Brockport flipped the lead rattling off 10 straight points, going up five, 59-54.
Immediately after Brockport went up, Collins nailed his fifth three of the game and
Marquis Tubman followed by converting a pair of free throws to tie the game at 59. Tubman would finish with 10 points.
On Brockport's next possession, Jahidi Wallace stepped to the line and hit one of two charity shots with 2:11 on the clock. It would prove to be the winning margin as neither team would score over the final two minutes.
The Devils shot 9-18 from three-point range compared to 3-15 by Brockport. The Devils also had the advantage on the boards, 33-31.
Brockport (6-2/3-1 SUNYAC) was led by Mekhi Bennet and David Grady with 16 points apiece.
Fredonia State (0-10/0-4 SUNYAC) is back home against Penn State Behrend on Wednesday. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
