GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped a 63-56 road game to Geneseo on Saturday.
Renee Park and
Laurell Brown led the offense with 11 points apiece. Amber Louos and
Mary Culeton had nine apiece.
The teams battled to a 13-all tie after the first quarter. The Devils would outscore Geneseo in the third and fourth, but it was a 20-8 advantage to Geneseo in the second quarter that proved to be the difference in the game.Â
A 10-0 run to open the second quarter gave Geneseo the lead for good. They would lead by as many as 13 in the half, 33-20, with 1:50 left to play.
The Devils never got too far behind, and would pull within two possessions late in the game. Consecutive baskets by Caitlyn Snyder, Culeton, and Brown cut the lead to four points, 58-54, with just under two minutes remaining.Â
Geneseo scored its next five points -- all from the free-throw line -- but the Devils could not convert anything offensively until Louis hit two free throws in the closing seconds of the game.
Lauren Romito posted a career-high 27 points and added 11 rebounds to go with three blocks as the Knights improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC.
The Devils fall to 3-5 and 0-3 in the conference. They will have a busy week at home coming up. They have conference games in Dods Hall on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday to wrap up the fall semester.
