Devils fall short at Behrend

ERIE, PA. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team jumped out to a 26-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but could not keep up with the Behrend Lions, falling 83-73, on Tuesday. Renee Park led the Devils with 20 points -- one of four Devils to score in double digits. 

A trio of freshmen added to the offensive effort. Sarah Seaman had 14 points, Laurell Brown 12, and Amber Loius 10. 

Both teams now stand at 3-2 this season. 

The Devils came out on fire in the first quarter, leading by as much as 20 points while shooting a scorching 73 percent (11-15) from the floor. A jumper by Brown at the 2:22 mark gave the Devils a 26-6 lead, capping a 9-0 run.

Behrend chipped away, scoring the next eight points, making it a 26-14 game. By halftime, the lead dwindled to five points, 42-37. 

Behrend would gain its first lead, 48-47, at 6:34 of the third following a three by Madeline Boyer. By the end of the third, the game stood 60-55 in favor of Behrend.

The Lions closed the game game with a 23-18 fourth quarter. They were led by a 28-point effort from Rachel Majewski. Boyer added 22 and a game-high nine rebounds.

Behrend outrebounded the Devils, 47-45. Caitlin Snyder topped the Devils with seven rebounds, and Brown and Seaman had six apiece. 
 
Alena Wright added three blocks and three assists for the Devils.

The Devils will begin conference play next week when they travel to Oswego on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
