PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's hockey team battled a tough Plattsburgh squad before taking a 3-0 loss in the first of two games in the North Country. Plattsburgh outshot the Devils, 44-23, while the Devils' netminder
Logan Dyck kept them in the game with 41 saves.
Plattsburgh put up a goal by Jake Lanyi 7:14 into the first period. The Cardinals would not score again until early in the third. Adam Tretowicz scored short-handed 3:14 into the period.
Plattsburgh would add an insurance goal at the 12:09 mark.
The Devils pushed the action in the scoreless second period, outshooting Plattsburgh, 13-8, in shots on goal in that frame. Johnny Maladruccolo had three of the Devils shots.
Fredonia State was 0-4 in power plays, and Plattsburgh was 0-2. The Cardinals had a 33-31 edge in faceoffs. Eli Schiller made 23 saves in earning the shutout.
The Devils fall to 1-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in SUNYAC play. Plattsburgh is now 4-1-2 and 3-1-1 in the conference.
The Devils finish their road trip, taking on Potsdam Saturday evening.
