Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Devils lose heartbreaker

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- After battling to a scoreless tie the first 84 minutes, the Cortland Red Dragons finally broke through with what proved to be the game winning-goal in a 1-0 victory over the Fredonia State women's soccer team on Saturday.

Cortland's Julia DeTurris took a crossing shot from the far left side. Suriania made a diving deflection on the initial attempt. As the ball trickled away, Jaden Galluzo followed up and ripped a shot from point-blank range from the right post. Surianna dove again and was able to get her hands on the ball, but could not stop it.

Suriani finished the game with eight saves and was aided by an aggressive, tight defense by her teammates against a Cortland squad that has not lost in 10 contests this year.

Cortland held a 17-4 advantage in shots, and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Cortland's Kristen Spendal made three saves for the shutout. Cortland also had six corner kicks to the Devils' zero.

Bri Grazen, Talia DeFay, and Grace Auer were all credited with shots on goal.

The Dragons improve to 7-0-3, and 3-0-1 in the conference.

Fredonia State falls to 2-6-2 overall and 0-4 in the SUNYAC. They play host to Brockport next Wednesday at University Stadium. Gametime is slated for 7 p.m.
