Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second half dooms Devils

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Leading 2-1, the Fredonia State men's soccer team could not contain the Buffalo State offense as the Bengals scored five second-half goals, dealing the Devils a 6-2 loss on Saturday.

Buffalo State struck first in the 14th minute. The Devils would tie the game in the 39th minute when Jimmy Doran found the net. He was assisted by Jacob Vallas and Jackson Retzer.

Four-and-a-half minutes into the second half, Kevin Loftus connected on a penalty kick to put Fredonia State up, 2-1.

The lead would hold until Saleman Salim scored in the 66th minute for Buffalo State. Three minutes later, Theo Pencic put the Bengals up 3-2. They would add three more goals to put the game away.

The Devils made the most of their shots on goals. They connected twice, and Bengal netminder Max Shoemaker was credited with just one save. Buffalo State held a 17-10 advantage in overall shots.

Kyle Pezzulo started in goal for Fredonia State and made two saves and gave up four goals in 77 minutes of play. William Richardson played the final 12:31, making two saves and giving up two goals.

The win for Buffalo State earns them two points in the Battle by the Lake. The women's soccer team made up that difference, beating the Bengal ladies earlier in the day. Including a victory by the Fredonia State volleyball team back on September 14th, Fredonia State leads the Battle this fall, 4-2.

Buffalo State improved to 7-1 overall, and 1-0 in the conference.

The Devils (5-3, 0-1 SUNYAC) are back in action Tuesday evening with a 7 p.m. start vs. Nazareth at University Stadium.
