FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team dropped an 80-72 game to the Hilbert Hawks on Wednesday.
Dydy Bryan (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Boys & Girls) led the Devils with 20 points and
Jackson Brown (Latham, N.Y. / Catholic Central) added nine off the bench.
Kreem George (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Brooklyn Collegiate) added seven points and seven rebounds.
Hilbert was led by Shawn Gashi with 20 points, and Quran Briggs with 17.
The Hawks improve to 2-2, while the Devils are now 0-3.
The Devils started the game with a three pointer from
Marcus Patterson (Brownsville, N.Y. / Boys & Girls). A jumper from George three minutes in made it 9-3, Fredonia Sate. It would be the Devils' largest lead of the game.
Hilbert tied the game at 13 on a layup from Edward Perez at the 14:00 mark. Shortly after there would be four lead changes before Hilbert took the lead for good. A three pointer by Shaheem Ellis broke a 26-all tie.
Hilbert's biggest lead of the first half was nine points, 40-31, following a fastbreak layup by Ellis. The half saw them maintain a 44-37 lead.
The Devils clawed back in the second half, twice making it a one-point game. A layup by Bryan at 14:07 saw the Devils trail 50-49. The two teams exchanged baskets to keep it a one-point margin.
The Devils trailed by three points as late at the 3:27 mark. A layup by Bryan made it 69-66 an forced the Hawks into a timeout. From there, the Devils could not get over the hump.
Hilbert outshout the Devils 49 percent to 43 percent from the floor. The Devils shot 70 percent from the line (16-23), while Hilbert struggled to the tune of 11-24 shooting (46 percent) from the charity stripe.Â
Next up for Fredonia State is a Nov. 22 game at Canisius. The game is slated to be on ESPN3.
