Cardinals defeat Devils, 2-0

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 game to Plattsburgh on Saturday, as both teams entered the day with one conference loss. Following the weekend split, the Devils are now 3-2 in the SUNYAC, and 8-4-1 overall. Plattsburgh improves to 5-1 in the SUNYAC and 8-2-2 on the season.

In the first half, the visitors pressed the action going with a stiff wind. They would outshoot the Devils, 10-1, but thanks to some stellar play by goalie Sabrini Suriani, the Cardinals would not get on the scoreboard.

In the 16th minute, Plattsburgh was awarded a penalty kick. The shot went right up the middle, and Suriani caught it to quash the attempt. Suriani would make three other quality saves to keep the score tied.

At the 50th minute in the second half, the Cardinal's Kirsten VIllamaire had an opportunity to score on a breakaway, but a charging Suriani forced the shot to sail high.

Villiamaire kept the pressure on and would eventually get Plattsburgh on the board. She received a pass from midfield and beat the Fredonia State defender one-on-one and snuck the ball in the lower left corner past Suriani in the 62nd minute to make it 1-0, Plattsburgh.

Emily Frodyma added a second goal in the 68th minute to make it 2-0.

Suriani finished the game with seven saves. Plattsburgh's Julia Ennis made six saves. Plattsburgh held a 17-7 advantage on shots.

The Devils travel to Penn State Behrend for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday.
