Richiusa shines against Potsdam

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Senior captain, Sophie Richiusa (Penfield, N.Y.) made the most of her opportunities on Friday evening, leading her team to a 2-0 victory against Potsdam (5-6-0, 1-4-0 SUNYAC). With the victory, Fredonia State Women's Soccer improved to 8-3-1 overall and 3-1-0 in SUNYAC play.

Richiusa's first goal came after the Blue Devils earned a corner. Nicki Barlow took the attempt for Fredonia State, placing a perfect ball into the six-yard box. After a rebound off a Potsdam player, Richiusa collected the ball and placed it perfectly in the back of the net.

In the minutes that followed, Katie Sellers (Glenmont, N.Y.) found chances to apply more pressure in Potsdam's end. The freshman forward had back-to-back chances that ended with the Bears' keeper making two great saves.

In the 57th minute, Richiusa and Barlow had the home fans seeing double. On a nearly identical play as the first half goal, Barlow placed another great corner into the middle of the six. The ball bounced a few times until Richiusa put it home for the Blue Devils.

Fredonia State outshot Potsdam 14 shots to six, with ten shots on goal.

Sabrina Suriani (Manlius, N.Y.) earned the clean sheet, turning away three shots.

The Blue Devils will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, hosting Plattsburgh at 1:00 PM at University Stadium.
