BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fredonia State Men's Hockey Team (1-1-0) picked up their first win of the season on the second day of the Bengal Classic. The Blue Devils topped Albertus Magnus (0-2-0) 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Fredonia used balance scoring from four different players and recorded goals in all three periods to contribute to the win.
The Blue Devils got the scoring going early, putting away their first goal 3:46 into the game.
Gregg Lee (Aliso Vejo, Calif.) recorded the goal, finishing the
Ethan Kirbis (Clarence, N.Y.),
Craig McCabe (Webster, N.Y.) helper.
The second period goal came from
Bryce Witman (Reading, Pa.), while
Matt Letmanski (Wheaton, Ill.) and
Parker Brakebill (Yorba Linda, Calif.) recorded an assist on the play.
The third period saw the Devils score two goals. The first came on a power play from
David Sudbrink (Nolensville, Tenn.). Kirbis and Brakebill each picked up another assist on the play.
The final goal of the game came with just under four minutes to play.
Anders Johnson (Salt Lake City, Utah) and
Brendan Dempsey (Shelby Township, Mich.) set up the play and found Letmanski for the finish.
Fredonia State's defense was stout in the win. The unit shut down the opposition's six power play opportunities, including four in the second period.
Logan Dyck (Calgary, Alberta) contributed to that unit, recording 29 saves over 60 minutes of play
Kirbis and Brakebill led the team with two points, each.
Fredonia State returns to action on Friday, November 5
th. The home opener is set for 7:00 PM against Trine.
