FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's volleyball team celebrated its five seniors in pregame ceremonies, then defeated Pitt-Bradford, 3-1, on Senior Night. Seniors
Brinn Shaughnessy and
Emily Jones led the offense 17 and 10 kills, respectively.
Fellow senior
Christie Ackendorf added eight kills.
Sierra Keim had a team high 24 digs, and
Eleanor Clarke led the Devils with three aces.
After dropping the first set, 25-23, the Devils came our roaring in the second, taking a 5-0 lead forcing Bradford to use a timeout. Bradford would pull to within two points, 11-9. From there, Fredonia State went on to take the second set, 25-19.
In the third set, the Devils trailed 16-14 before rattling off eight straight points. Clarke served for seven of those points, including a pair of aces. They would go on to win 25-19 when Jones delivered her ninth kill of the night.
Fredonia State took control early in the fourth set, building a 9-3 lead. The feisty Bobcats battled back scoring eight of the next nine to go up, 11-10. The Devils then scored six of the next seven, taking a 16-12 lead. They eventually ended the evening with a 25-18 win in the final set.
The win improved the Devils to 12-11, and Bradford fell to 17-6.
Fredonia State heads to Rochester this weekend to take on St. John Fisher, Elmira, and Nazareth in a the Nazareth Tournament. They return to Dods Hall on Tuesday for the quarterfinals of the SUNYAC Tournament. Game time vs. New Paltz is slated for 6 p.m.
