St. John Fisher too much for Women’s Volleyball

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Fredonia State Women's Volleyball Team (12-12, 6-3 SUNYAC) fell to regionally-ranked St. John Fisher College (22-4) on Friday evening. The Blue Devils dropped a 3-0 decision following 25-14, 26-24, and 25-15 set scores.
 
The Blue Devils recorded 24 kills on 99 total attempts to earn a .051 hitting percentage over the three sets.
 
Fredonia State's top performance of the night came in the second set. The visitors recorded 12 kills and a .147 hitting percentage.
 
The Blue Devils started hot in the second stanza and looked to be erasing a first-set loss. They opened the set with a 5-1 advantage, three of those points coming off of a kill from Emily Jones (Plainfield, Ill.).
 
The visitors held the lead or tie until the game evened at 10s. From there, the two teams exchanged runs until they were again tied at 14s, 15s, and 16s.
 
At one point the Blue Devils were down 23-19 and went on a four-point run to even things at 23. Three of the four points came from Brinn Shaughnessy (Apalachin, N.Y.).
 
The junior recorded a kill and two service aces during that span.
 
Despite evening the game again at 24, the Cardinals were able to close out the two points to move on to the third set.
 
Jones led the team with eight kills and had a .185 hitting percentage.
 
Selena Brown (Queens, N.Y) filled the stat sheet with three kills, .200 hitting percentage, three block assists, and one dig.
 
Sierra Keim (Shinglehouse, Pa.) recorded a team-high 11 digs and Kourtney Krchniak (Lockport, N.Y.) led the team with 20 assists.
 
Fredonia State will complete the Rochester trip tomorrow. The Blue Devils will play Elmira and Nazareth at Nazareth with 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM match times.
