OSWEGO, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, Fredonia State's Women's Soccer Team secured a 1-0 victory at Oswego to improve to 2-1-0 in SUNYAC play and 7-3-1 overall.
The Blue Devils wasted no time getting on the board. In the 6
th minute an Oswego foul gave Fredonia a set piece opportunity.
Grace Auer (Lewiston, N.Y.) played a beautiful ball in, finding
Katie Sellers (Glenmont, N.Y.). Sellers flicked the ball on to
Bri Grazen (Lancaster, N.Y.) who sent the ball past an outstretched Oswego keeper.
Although early, Grazen's goal proved to be the game-winner.
Fredonia held on for the remaining 84 minutes, in large part due to the stellar play from
Sabrina Suriani (Manlius, N.Y.). One of Suriani's saves came in the 11
th minute on an Oswego breakaway. The Fredonia keeper secured the ball, ending one of Oswego's best chances.
Suriani was a force in net, turning away all nine of Oswego's on-goal shots.
After a difficult outing yesterday, Coach
Chris Case was proud of the way his team responded. "We stepped up in a big way", said Case, "to bounce back and get a big SUNYAC win on the road was just what our team needed."
The Blue Devils took 15 shots throughout the course of the game, putting seven on night. The squad also earned two corners.
Fredonia State returns home to University Stadium on Friday afternoon when they host the Potsdam Bears at 4:00 PM.
