FREDONIA, NY - The Fredonia State women's basketball team fell to New Paltz, 78-63, on Friday evening.
Rae White led the Devils with 21 points.
Katie Pitcher contributed 12 points and six rebounds.
Fredonia State opened the first quarter with a 13-5 lead with 2:15 left to play. The Hawks made a 7-2 run to end the first quarter, but the Devils maintained a 15-12 edge.
New Paltz evened things and eventually took the lead late in the second quarter. However, a long buzzer beater from just past mid-court by
Audrey Craffey enabled the Devils to take a 39-38 lead into the half.
The second half swung in the Hawk's favor, as they outscored the Blue Devils in both quarters. At the end of the third quarter, New Paltz led by a score of 58-54.
New Paltz went on an 11-2 run to open the fourth quarter, and outscored the Devils 20-9 in the last 10 minutes of regulation.
The Hawks had four players in double-digit scoring, with Marion Dietz leading the way with 16 points. New Paltz moves to 18-3 with a 13-1 SUNYAC record.
Fredonia State drops to 9-14 overall and 5-11 in the SUNYAC. They play host to Oneonta tomorrow, with tip off scheduled for 2 p.m. Tomorrow's game is a must-win for the Devils. A loss will eliminate them from playoff contention. The sixth-and-final spot will come down to one of the two teams. Oneonta does hold the upper hand, with one more win (6-8 SUNYAC record) and four games left to play, while the Devils have two games left in the regular season.
