Devils fall short vs. Dragons

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A 61-53 loss to Oneonta on Saturday eliminated the the Fredonia State women's basketball team from post-season play. Despite trailing by as many as 13 points early in the third quarter, the Devils came back and briefly took the lead, but could not overcome the Red Dragons.

Rae White led the offense with 12 points while Morgan Davis had 11 and eight rebounds. Audrey Craffey contributed 10 points and Anna Chiacchia had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Pitcher finished with nine points and six rebounds. 
 
Early on, a 13-0 Red Dragon run gave the visitors a 16-4 lead with 1:20 left in the opening quarter. Fredonia State answered back with a quick 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 16-10 ending the frame. 
 
The Red Dragons extended  their lead to 29-20 by the half. Morgan Davis led the offense for Fredonia State with nine first-half points. Oneonta shot 42 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes of action, compared to the Blue Devils' 28 percent. 
 
Oneonta's biggest lead of the game came at the 9:08 mark of the third. The Dragons scored the first four points of the second half to go up 33-20.

The Blue Devils got hot later in the third quarter, ripping off a 16-2 run thanks to a barrage of three pointers. The Blue Devils went 5-6 from deep in the third, and outscored the Red Dragons 21-10.

White hit back-to-back threes to cut the score to 37-35 with two minutes left in the third. 
 
The next possession, Pitcher hit a three of her own from the top of the key to give the Blue Devils their first second-half lead, bringing the score to 38-37.  White then hit her third three of the quarter on a buzzer beater to give Fredonia State a 41-39 lead starting the fourth quarter. 
 
The fourth quarter saw eight lead changes, but Oneonta pulled away late and outscored the Devils 22-12 in the fourth.

Olivia Allrich led Oneonta (10-12 / 7-8 SUNYAC) in scoring with 18 points and Casey Hayes added 13.
 
Fredonia State drops to 9-15 overall and 5-12 in the conference.
