BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped a 67-58 game at Brockport on Tuesday night. For the Devils,
Katie Pitcher had her third-straight game with 20 or more points, finishing with 21 and a game-high nine rebounds.
Rae White added 11 points and four assists, while
Anna Chiacchia had nine points and four assists.
Lauren Mickley had seven points and seven rebounds
The game started well for the Devils. They led the entire first quarter, jumping out to a 15-11 lead.
Brockport opened the second quarter with a pair of layups and a three pointer to gain its first lead, 18-15.
A three-point play by Mickley at the 6:41 mark tied the game at 22-all. Brockport then proceeded to go on an 11-0 run. By the half, they led 35-25 after outscoring the Devils by 14 points in the second quarter.
They Devils struggled on offense in the third quarter, shooting 1-12 from the field. They did connect on 5-7 free-throw opportunities, but Brockport expanded the lead to sixteen points, 48-32.
The offense picked up the pace in the fourth and final quarter with 26 points, but it was too little, too late. The Devils were 7-18 from the floor, including 3-6 from three-point range, and 9-9 from the line -- they finished 16-18 from the charity stripe for the game.
Pitcher would score 13 points in the fourth.
Juliana Taylor led Brockport (7-8) with 16 points, and Kylie Rosbrook had 14.
The Devils (5-10) are battling for a playoff spot with three conference games remaining. They are tied with Oneonta (5-8) in the win column with five victories for the sixth-and-final spot in the SUNYAC Tournament. The Red Dragons come to town this weekend where the teams will go head-to-head on Saturday. Prior to that, the Devils take on New Paltz in Dods Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening.
The Devils could jump past fifth-place Brockport in the standings, but would need to win out and Brockport to lose its three remaining games.
