FREDONIA, NY - The Fredonia State men's basketball team played host to Geneseo in a Tuesday evening conference matchup, dropping a 58-48 contest. The Knights never led by more than 10 in the second half, and the Devils held a brief lead, but were unable to overcome the visitors.
Moussa Samassa recorded a double-double -- his third in four games -- with 13 points and 13 boards. Dydy Bryan had 11 points and six assists.
The Knights jumped out to an early 15-4 lead, due in part to their effectiveness behind the arc. Geneseo's Michael Gannon, Alex Merhige, and Aaron Davis each made a three in the opening run.
By halftime, Geneseo led 31-22. Chad Biersbach led Fredonia State with seven first-half points.
Opening the second half, Fredonia got off to a 12-1 run, taking its first-and-only lead of the game, 34-32. Dydy Bryan had two hard drives to the hole to cap the Devils rally.
Geneseo came back with a 10-0 run, taking a 42-34 lead.
The Devils came close one more time. A Tyler Roberts four-point play cut the Knights lead to three, 44-41.
The momentum shift did not prove great enough as Geneseo then responded with five unanswered points down the stretch to hang onto the lead.
Geneseo (6-10 / 3-6 SUNYAC) was led by Gannon with 14 points, while Merhige and Davis had 10 apiece.
The Blue Devils (7-9 / 3-6 SUNYAC) are back in action this weekend versus Cortland and Oswego. The men tip off versus Cortland Friday night at 5:30, and 2:00 Saturday versus Oswego.
