FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State and Houghton played to a 2-2 tie during the first day of the Blue Devil Soccer Classic at University Stadium.
Samuel Johnson and
Colin Merkey scored the two Fredonia goals, both in the first half. Ben DiCrasto tallied twice for the Highlanders.
Johnson cut in front of the goal crease and headed home
Matt Cullen's cross in the 10th minute. Merkey's short shot in the 44th minute deflected off a Houghton defender.
DiCrasto's first goal came later in the 44th minute on a free kick. His second in the 60th minute followed a pass from Kenneth Estep.
The tie left the Blue Devils with a 1-0-2 mark, same as Houghton.
Buffalo State defeated Westminster (Pa.), 4-0, in the first men's game Friday.
Action resumes Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with Buffalo State squaring off against Houghton, and Fredonia State facing Westminster. The Blue Devils will play at the main field at University Stadium.
