FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State freshman
Izzy Audette had a pair of goals as part of a 4-1 women's soccer win over Medaille on Wednesday night at University Stadium.
Melanie Minotti and
Haley Elsey had one goal each and
Madalyn Traverse made two saves in goal. The Blue Devils improved to 3-3-0 this season while the Mavericks fell to 2-4-0.
Audette's first goal of the game came late in the seventh minute, a low strike from beyond the 18-yard box into the lower left corner of the net. It was her second of the season and put the Blue Devils on top 1-0. The Blue Devils went up 2-0 in the 26th minute on Minotti's fourth goal of the year. She intercepted a short pass deep in the offensive end, spun around a defender, and put the ball inside the left post.
The Mavericks cut the deficit in half in the 34th minute as Kristen Kline cleaned up on a loose ball inside the box. The scoring play began as a Maverick corner kick which the Blue Devils were unable to clear out of their defensive end.
Audette's second goal of the game and her third of the year came in the 60th minute after a run from midfield and around several Medaille defenders, resulting in a shot from the top of the 18 into the lower right corner. Elsey's first goal of the season gave the Blue Devils a 4-1 lead in the 71st minute. Her left-footer was up by
Nina Doyle's short pass.
The Blue Devils outshot the Mavericks, 30-6, and had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
