FREDONIA, N.Y -- The Fredonia State women's volleyball had its back against the wall several times, but in the end, would prevail three-sets-to-two over Penn State Behrend in its Home Opener on Wednesday.
At one point, Fredonia trailed two sets to one. Later they would fall behind 4-0 in the fourth set before coming back with a 25-17 win to force a fifth-and-final set.
They would trail 11-8 late in the tiebreaker, before scoring seven of the last nine points to snare the victory, 15-13.
Emma Booth (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier) and
Emily Jones (Plainfield, Ill. / Joliet Catholic) led the offense with 15 kills apiece, while
Emily Leone (LeRoy, N.Y. / LeRoy) added nine and
Caroline Roy (Glenwood, N.Y. / Springville) had eight.
Kourtney Krchniak (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) had 52 assists and four service aces. Booth and
Sierra Keim (Shinglehouse, Pa. / Portville) each had three aces.
Defensively, Leone had four blocks and Keim had 22 digs.
"One of our team strengths is that we don't give up and that was again apparent today," said head coach
Geoff Braun. "After this past weekend we talked about managing the end of sets better which I though we did really well today. Roy and Leone stepped up and played well."Â For Roy, it was her first start of the season.
The Devils improved to 3-6, while Behrend falls to 2-6.
Fredonia travels to Allegheny for a quad match this weekend.
