CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's volleyball team dropped its season opener, 3-0, vs. Baldwin Wallace, and bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Canton.
In the match against Baldwin Wallace, who is coming off of a 27-5 season, the Devils fell 25-19, 25-17, and 25-18.
Emma Booth (York, N.Y / Our Lady of Mercy) led the offense with eight kills.
Emily Jones (Plainfield, Ill. / Joliet Catholic) and
Christie Ackendorf (Amherst, N.Y. / Sweet Home) added four apiece.
Selena Brown (South Ozone Park, N.Y. / Hillcrest) had two blocks and freshman
Kourtney Krchniak (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) had 23 assists in her Blue Devil debut. Classmate
Sierra Keim (Shinglehouse, Pa. / Portville) had seven digs.
In the second match vs. SUNY Canton the Devils won 25-19, 25-18, and 25-16.
The Devils combined for 12 aces, with Krchniak recording four and Keim three. Booth had nine kills, and Jones seven. Krchniak had 31 more assists.
Makenna Kallin (Owego, N.Y. / Owego) chipped in six kills and a team-high five digs.
On Saturday, the Devils take on St. Lawrence at 10 a.m. and Lebanon Valley at 12:30 to wrap up the weekend.
