FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Nick Lawlor shut out Alfred State, 6-0, on two hits Tuesday in Fredonia's final tuneup before the SUNYAC Baseball Tournament this weekend.
The junior righthander yielded two singles and walked two while striking out one as he improved to 2-2 and the Blue Devils 12-21.Â
Kole Brink was 4 for 4 to lead Fredonia's attack.
Tylor Murphy had a triple and scored two runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Murphy walked and stole second, Russell Mistretta walked to put runners on first and second with no outs in the third. Brink then beat out a bunt for a hit and Murphy scored on an Alfred State throwing error to put Fredonia on top 1-0. A sacrifice bunt by Ryan Hann preceded a sacrifice fly by Brian Chatt. Following another walk, Brink scored on the front end of a double-steal attempt ahead of a throw out at second.
- The Blue Devils added insurance runs three different times. A lead-off triple by Murphy and a single by Brink made it 4-0 in the fifth. A walk to Mistretta, singles by Brink and Hann, and an Alfred State error made it 5-0 in the seventh. Phillips walked, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch for the final run in the eighth.
