FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A goal by Jordan Renaud lifted Brockport over Fredonia State, 4-3, in SUNYAC men's hockey Friday at Steele Hall.
Renaud was stationed in front of the net and tipped a shot by Doc Gentzler at 17:28 of the third period as the Golden Eagles improved to 5-2-0, both overall and in the conference. The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 1-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference.
Ryan Dunner,
Anders Johnson, and
Ethan Kirbis had the Fredonia State goals. Shane Visnick, Jeremy Solat, and Ethan Solat tallied for Brockport before Renaud added the game-winner, earning himself the No. 1 star. Johsnon was awarded the No. 2 star -- and the Blue Devil Booster Club Player of the Game Award -- for his first collegiate goal. Brockport goaltender Matt Schneider made 30 saves to earn the No. 3 star.
Fredonia State senior goaltender Anton Rosen made 29 saves and the Blue Devils successfully killed all six Brockport power plays to extend their streak to 30 straight penalty kills (30 of 31 overall).
Dunner jammed a wrap-around into the short side to open the scoring -- his fourth goal of the season -- at 8:56 of an eventual first period. Visnick drew Brockport even when he converted on a 2-on-1 rush. The Blue Devils regained the lead on Anderson's goal, a wrister from just inside the blue line which beat Schneider between the pads. Jeremy Solat scored 25 seconds later when he split two Fredonia State defenders and went in alone on Rosen.
Each team had a goal in the second period. A long breakout led to the goal by Ethan Solat on a rebound of his own shot. Kirbis then evened the score at 3-3 with a power-play goal following a cross-ice pass from
Victor Tracy. It was the first goal of the season by Kirbis.
The game-winning goal by Renaud was the only scoring in the third period.
Fredonia State takes to the road Saturday to face Geneseo.
