OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State women's soccer entered the weekend in control of its own fate to make the SUNYAC Tournament. That scenario still exists following a 2-1 road win Friday over Oswego.
A goal by
Nina Doyle in the 47th minute provided the winning margin as the Blue Devils improved to 6-8-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the conference, good for 11 points and fifth place.
A win Saturday at Cortland guarantees the Blue Devils a spot in the six-team conference tournament. Anything short of that and things get dicey. They are among five teams vying for the last three spots in the bracket. The five teams are separated by four points.
Down 1-0 early on a goal by Oswego's Maggie Riordan, the Blue Devils pulled even on a goal by
Sophie Richiusa in the 35th minute. It was Richiusa's third goal of the season, with
Sydney Tanner assisting.
Gabby Alston assisted on Doyle's goal, also her third of the season and her first game-winner as a collegian.
Sabrina Suriani was in goal for the Blue Devils and was credited with three saves.Â
The Blue Devils controlled the tempo of the game and took 24 shots, second-most in a game this season and the most since taking 30 shots on Sept. 18 vs. Medaille.
