FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State scored early in the first half and protected their advantage for a 1-0 SUNYAC women's soccer win Saturday over Buffalo State at University Stadium.
Freshman forward
Gabby Alston left-footed a shot into the far corner in the 13th minute after receiving a through ball from senior midfielder
Shania Platt. It was Alston's fifth goal of the season and her first game-winner as a collegian.
Freshman goalkeeper
Sabrina Suriani made the lead stand with six saves, including a diving stop on a header by Buffalo State's Emma Boccolucci in the 71st minute to preserve the shutout, her second. Another Buffalo State player fired the rebound wide. (Watch video below)
The win kept alive the playoff hopes of the Blue Devils (5-8-2 overall, 2-3-2 SUNYAC) heading into the final weekend of the regular season. They visit Oswego on Friday and Cortland next Saturday looking to crack into the top six in the conference. They currently find themselves one point back of that spot.
The Bengals (6-9-1 overall, 3-4-0 SUNYAC) clanged two shots off the cross bar, one in each half, while outshooting the Blue Devils, 16-12. Fredonia State had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior forward
Melanie Minotti took five shots to lead the Blue Devils on a day she and Platt were recognized for playing their final regular-season home game.
