FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's volleyball team's playoff hopes took a big hit Friday evening when they fell to the visiting Cortland Red Dragons, 3-0. The loss left the Devils needing to win their final three matches to have a shot at the post season.
Cortland won 25-23, 25-14, and 25-21.
Emily Jones (Plainfield, Ill. / Joliet Catholic) led the Devils with seven kills and three service aces, and
Brinn Shaughnessy (Apalachin, N.Y. / Owego) had six kills.
Emily Leone (LeRoy, N.Y. / LeRoy) chipped in five kills and
Kourtney Krchniak (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) had 23 assists.
Sierra Keim (Shinglehouse, Pa. / Portville) led the defense with 19 digs, while the team combined for two blocks.
Cortland (5-1 SUNYAC / 21-7) was paced by Hannah Southcott with 11 kills and three aces.
With the loss, the Devils fall to 1-5 in the conference and 8-14 overall. They take on Oswego Saturday at 1 p.m.
