FREDONIA, N.Y. – Fredonia State was swept Saturday by Oswego in SUNYAC women's volleyball at Dods Hall.
The 25-23, 25-20 and 28-26 loss eliminated the Blue Devils (1-6 conference, 8-15 overall) from SUNYAC playoff contention.
Emma Booth led the Blue Devils with eight kills and two service aces, Emily Leone seven kills and two blocks, Sierra Keim had two aces and 12 digs, and Brinn Shaughnessy six kills and 12 digs. Emily Jones had four blocks.
Lauren Fie was the top hitter for Oswego with 11 kills while Julia Flohr was credited with 13 digs and 26 assists. Elissa Lussier and Shauna O'Flaherty also had 13 digs.
The Blue Devils scored the first three points of the match and led by two points midway through the first set before Oswego rattled off seven straight points, including two kills by Fie. The second set was a seesaw affair until a four-point streak by Oswego opened a three-point lead, 19-16, en route to the set win.
The third set saw Oswego pushed to the brink, 24-18, before rallying for six straight points. Kills by Fie and Shannon Stone, three errors by the Blue Devils, and an ace by Emily Costa turned the tide. Fredonia State regained the lead, 25-24, on a kill by Jones, only to be outscored 4-1. The final two Oswego points were a kill by fall and a Fredonia State ball-handling error.
