OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Freshman
Katie Pitcher (Fulton, N.Y. / Hannibal) poured in 17 points and
Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake) registered a neat double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in leading the Fredonia women's basketball team to a 56-50 win at Oswego.
Einink also had four blocks. The Devils evened their SUNYAC mark to 5-5, and upped their overall mark to 8-9.
The Devils scored first and the lead would grow to as many as 12 in the first half.
Lauren Mickley (Danville, Oh. / Danville) nailed a three to open th second quarter to put the Devils up 19-7.
The Lakers (1-9 / 2-15) would fight back, ending the quarter trailing 27-23.
Two possessions into the third quarter -- a layup and a three pointer -- and the Lakers gained their first lead of the game, 28-27.
Fredonia responded with a 10-0 run to take back the lead for good. Pitcher scored eight points in the run.
Midway through the fourth, the Lakers made it a one possession game. A layup by Amanda Altes with 5:52 cut Fredonia's lead to 44-42.
Sarah Sweazy (Rochester, N.Y. / Rush Henrietta), Pitcher, and
Anna Chiacchia (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) combined for the next six points to to extend the Devil lead to eight. The Lakers would cut the lead to three two more times, but the Devils would hang on for the road win and season sweep of the Lakers.
Oswego got 13 points from Raiven Encarnacion and 13 rebounds from Sy Ramatoulaye.
Fredonia will aim for the season sweep of Cortland on Saturday. Tip off is slated for 2 p.m.
