POTSDAM, N.Y. --
Sarah Sweazy (Rochester, N.Y. / Rush Henrietta) scored 12 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter in leading the Fredonia women's basketball team to a 66-50 victory at Potsdam on Saturday.
Sweazy was five-of-five from the floor in the first, which included a pair of threes. She finished the game eight of 10, and went two of two from the foul line. She also had six steals.
The Devils improve to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the SUNYAC.
Freshman
Katie Pitcher (Fulton, N.Y. / Hannibal) finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.
Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake) added 15 points and six boards.
Devyn Elliot led Potsdam with 13 points and had eight rebounds. Naya Walters had nine points and 13 rebounds. The Bears fall to 5-8 and 2-5 in the conference.
Down 9-7, a layup by Sweazy followed by her second three pointer put the Devils up for good midway through the first frame. Fredonia held a 24-19 lead at the end of the high-scoring first quarter.
Things slowed down in the second quarter where the Devils outscored Potsdam 11-8 to take an eight-point lead, 35-27, into the locker room.
A layup and a three pointer by Potsdam to open the third cut the lead to three points.
With Fredonia leading 42-37, the Devils went on a 10-0 run starting at the 4:07 mark of the third quarter to take a 15-point lead, and from there, would cruise to the victory.
The Devils are idle until next weekend when they play host to New Paltz and Oneonta.
