BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Fredonia senior
Abby Price (Naples, N.Y./Naples) scored all of her team's goals as Fredonia rallied over Brockport, 3-2, in SUNYACÂ women's soccer.
Freshman goalkeeper
Abbey Monahan (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw) made 17 saves as the Blue Devils improved to 3-0 in the SUNYACÂ and 5-5 overall. Their 3-0 conference record is the best-ever start in program history, which dates back to 1986.
Tied with Geneseo for first place, the Blue Devils and Blue Knights meet 1 p.m. Saturday at Geneseo with the winner claiming the top spot for themselves.
Marissa Greiner put Brockport on top, 1-0, in the eighth minute, and again in the 40
th minute, 2-1. In between, Price scored her third goal of the season, assisted by freshman
Brooke Browning (Farnham, N.Y./Lake Shore), in the 20th minute, when her shot deflected off a Brockport defender and sailed high over the goalkeeper inside the far post.
Still down 2-1 at halftime, the Blue Devils put the pressure on to start the second half and it paid immediate dividends. Following a throw-in deep in their offensive end, sophomore defender
Lauren Cullinan (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) dribbled along the end line and crossed a pass toward the near post. Price, running through the box, redirected the ball off the post for a 2-2 tie in the 47th minute.
The lead was Fredonia's for good by the 52nd minute. That's when freshman forward
Haley Elsey (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) slipped a pass to Price, whose hard shot from about 20 yards out sailed under the cross bar. It was Price's team-leading fifth goal of the season and her first multi-goal game as a collegian.
