FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia's program-best eight-match winning streak in women's tennis ended Saturday with a 6-3 loss to defending SUNYAC champ Geneseo.
The Knights (5-0 overall, 4-0 SUNYAC) eked out one of three doubles matches, then took five of the six singles matches on the Steele Hall courts.
Sarah Bunk (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), a sophomore, earned two points for the Blue Devils (8-1 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC). She won her No. 3 singles match and teamed with freshman
Mikayla Johnson (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern) to win No. 2 doubles.
Fredonia's third point came from the No. 1 doubles team of senior
Olivia Miller (Springwater, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) and junior
Anna Chiacchia (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg). It was the 22nd career doubles win for Miller, tying her Molly Zanetti (2010-13) and Stephanie Thompson (2011-14) for the school record. Chiacchia has 21 doubles wins.
Geneseo has won seven straight conference titles and seven of the last 10.
