BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Goals by
Claire Roosa (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph) and
Abby Price (Naples, N.Y./Naples) supported the shutout goalkeeping of
Kendall Owczarzak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) in a 2-0 Fredonia women's soccer win Tuesday over the Medaille Mavericks.
Roosa, a freshman, scored her first collegiate goal in the eighth minute, assisted by sophomore
Lauren Cullinan (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster), who played the ball into the box from a wide angle. Roosa finished the place while traffic.
Price, one of two seniors on the Fredonia roster, made it 2-0 in the 57th minute on a set up from freshman
Caitlyn Speranza (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Bolton). Price received the pass up top and cut back on s defender to get off a low shot. It was her first goal of the season and the eighth of her career.
Owczarzak, the other Blue Devil senior, made four saves for her first shutout of the season and her eighth as a Blue Devil. The Mavericks (1-4) had a 5-4 edge in corners kicks.
The Blue Devils, who improved to 2-3, outshot the Mavericks, 19-8. Owczarzak's counterpart, Melyssa Olmstead, was credited with 11 saves.
Fredonia returns to action Saturday at noon against Rochester Institute of Technology at University Stadium.
