NEW LONDON, Conn. -- A goal by the Coast Guard's Brielle Pearce in the 103rd minute dropped Fredonia, 1-0, and sent the Blue Devils to 0-2 following their season-opening East Coast road trip.
Pearce slipped in behind the Fredonia defense and rifled a shot past senior goalkeeper
Kendall Owczarzak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster), who played the second half and all of the two overtimes. She made four saves after freshman
Abbey Monahan (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw) made three saves in the first half.
Coast Guard's Katharina Commins was called on to make two stops in earning the shutout. For the Blue Devils, senior
Abby Price (Naples, N.Y./Naples) and freshman
Sophia Richiusa (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) each had two shots and one shot-on-goal.
Fredonia was outshot 17-5 and outcornered 8-3.
The Blue Devils are idle until next Friday when they meet D'Youville at University Stadium in the first round of the Blue Devil Invitational.
