Devils blanked 2-0 in season opener

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Fredonia's 2018 women's soccer season began Friday with a 2-0 loss to the U. Mass.-Dartmouth Corsairs. It was the first meeting ever between the two teams.

Second-half goals by Kaitlyn Bernier and Ella Rath accounted for all the scoring. Bernier broke the scoreless tie just 27 seconds into the second half. Rath's insurance marker came in the 52nd minute.

The Blue Devils were outshot 11-6 overall and managed three shots-on-goal, one each by Claire Roosa (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph), Abby Price (Naples, N.Y./Naples), and Lauren Cullinan (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence). UMD's Jaimee O'Brien made all three saves to preserve the shutout. The Corsars were awarded six corner kicks to just one for the Blue Devils.

Fredonia freshman goalkeeper Abbey Monahan (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw) made seven saves.

The Blue Devils are back in action Saturday when they visit the U.S. Coast Guard in New London, Conn., at 3 p.m.
