FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia's bid to earn its first women's lacrosse win of the season fell short Thursday in a 19-15 loss to Allegheny.
The Blue Devils (0-8) led 7-4 in the first half and kept the lead until 16:02 remained when a goal by Allegheny's Emily Krauss forged a 12-12 tie. Taylor Vigneri followed with a goal with 14:56 remaining and the Gators (5-5) led the rest of the way.
Blue Devil freshman defender
Alli Coon (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) had four goals and one assist before drawing a red-card penalty with 18:23 left. Her absence the rest of the way further diminished Fredonia's already injury-depleted roster and coincided with an 8-2 Allegheny run to gain command.
Sophomore attack
Madeline Haney (Macedon, N.Y./Victor) scored five goals on seven shots and picked up two ground balls. Freshman attack
Casey Villagomez (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) filled up the stat sheet with three goals, three ground ball, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers. In addition, freshman midfielder
Alexis Skowron (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) had two goals and two assists plus three draws. Junior attack
Jen Kershner (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), appearing in her first goal of the season, had one goal.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper
Nicole Burrows (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) made 19 saves. Due in large part to her efforts, Allegheny was 0 of 9 on free-position shots. The Blue Devils were 9 of 14 on free-positions yet were outdrawn 23-13.
Next up for Fredonia is a Saturday afternoon SUNYAC meeting vs. Cortland. Game time at University Stadium is 1 p.m.
