CLERMONT, Fla. -- Fredonia freshman
Makenzie Keeler (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) continued her torrid spring with three hits, including two triples, in the Blue Devils' split Thursday at Legends Field.
Keeler raised her batting average to .458 with an RBI single in a 5-2 loss to Scranton, followed by the two triples in an 8-0 victory over Becker.
Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint) pitched her second straight two-hitter to improve to 3-1.
The Blue Devils improved to 6-2 overall.
In the loss to Scranton, the Blue Devils were limited to five hits and made three errors. They scored both their runs in the third to take a 2-1 lead.
Sydney Merkley (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) blooped a double into right and scored on a single through the middle by
Rhianna Paoletti (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore). Keeler drove home Paoletti with a single up the middle.
Katie Yudin (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) took the loss, her first of the season after three straight wins.
Against Becker, the Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Yudin blooped a single into short left and eventually scored on an error. They made it 3-0 in the third when Yudin reached on an error and scored on a triple to center by Keeler.
Cassie Herman (Maybrook, N.Y. / Valley Central) brought home Keeler with a single up the middle.
Keeler tripled again to lead off the fifth and scored on a single by Herman to make it 4-0. Herman scored on a bloop single to center by
Emma Isaac (Salamanca, N.Y./Salamanca). Two more runs scored when Paoletti hit a ball into the right-center gap which dropped when the outfielders collided.
Yudin singled through the left side and scored on a double to right-center by Herman -- the third hit of the game for each player -- to score Fredonia's eighth run in the top of the sixth. Seegar pitched a 1-2-3 last of the sixth to close out the game by the mercy rule. She had nine strikeouts.and issued zero walks..
