ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Fredonia women's lacrosse held a lead midway through the second half before falling 20-16 Wednesday to Western Connecticut State at 2018 SpringFling.
The Blue Devils (0-4) held leads of 13-12 and 14-13 on goals by
Casey Villagomez (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West ) and
Samantha Spiess (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield). Western Connecticut State closed out the game with a 7-2 run, including two goals while Fredonia was trying to kill penalties.
Villagomez led the Fredonia offense with seven goals on 11 shots. She also collected four ground balls, one fewer than team leader
Joshua Brzoza (Farmingdale, N.Y./Sachem East). Spiess finished with three goals and 10 draw controls.
Emily Ellis (Sanborn, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) and
Alexis Skowron (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) had two goals each.
Alli Coon (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) was credited with two ground balls,
Paige Bauch (Spencerport, N.Y./Brockport) with three caused turnovers.
Fredonia goalkeeper
Chelsea Robillard (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) made seven saves. She allowed goals to five different opponents, including eight by Brooke Baldelli.
Next up for the Blue Devils is a trip to Morrisville State on March 27.
