CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's basketball team fell 75-48 at Cortland on Friday.
Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Mayville) topped the Devils with 12 points.
Alisha Szumigala (Forestville, N.Y. / Forestville) returned to the lineup, grabbing 10 boards and finishing with seven points.
Justice Nauden (Waterport, N.Y. / Albion) and
Anna Chiacchia (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) had nine points apiece. Chiacchia scored all her points from three-point range.
Cortland (11-4 SUNYAC / 13-8 overall) opened the game with a three pointer by Kerry McHugh and never looked back, leading the entire game. They held a slim 19-16 lead after one quarter, but outscored Fredonia 12-3 in the second quarter.
Cortland kept the momentum rolling, outscoring the Devils in the third and fourth quarters, as well.
Both teams connected for seven threes, and Cortland won the rebounding battle, 45-39. Cortland shot 20 of 24 (83 percent) from the line, while the Devils were seven of 11 (64 percent). The Devils were slowed by 28-percent shooting from the floor.
The Red Dragons were led by Krist Vertucci with 17 points, and Justine Crespo had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Devils fall to 8-15 and 6-10 in the SUNYAC. They travel to Oswego on Saturday.
