Einink, Law lead Devils over Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Fredonia stayed in the running for a SUNYAC women's basketball playoff spot with a 66-50 win Saturday over Oswego State.

Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake) led the Blue Devils with 25 points while Jacque Law (Lime Lake, N.Y. / Pioneer) added 16 points, five assists, and three steals. Alisha Szumigala (Forestville, N.Y. / Forestville) led both teams with 12 rebounds.

The Blue Devils (9-15 overall / 7-10 SUNYAC) and Buffalo State, which defeated Cortland on Saturday, moved into a tie for the sixth and final SUNYAC playoff berth heading into their showdown next Saturday at Dods Hall. The two Western New York rivals are a half-game clear of Plattsburgh, which closes out its regular season with a pair of home games next weekend -- Oneonta on Friday and New Paltz on Saturday.

In their win Saturday, the Blue Devils took the lead for good, 22-20, on a layup by Einink midway through the second quarter. They built a 39-30 halftime lead on the strength of some accurate shooting -- 16 of 27 (59.3 percent).

Einink's 25 points give her a career total of 982 -- No. 12 on Fredonia's all-time list. She already holds the available team career mark for blocked shots with 120, two more than Cheryl Kindzia (2004-08). School records in the category are incomplete.

Meanwhile, Law -- 2 of 4 from the line Saturday -- tied Becky Hebert (2010-14) on Fredonia's career list with 357 career free throws each. Law already is the record-holder in free-throw attempts, currently with 459.
