CORTLAND, N.Y. --The Cortland Red Dragons jumped out to a 13-2 lead to take quick control of the game, defeating Fredonia, 75-52, in men's basketball action on Friday.
Kay Jackson ( Ridgewood, N.Y. / Grover Cleveland ) had 14 points, and
Justin Tapper ( White Plains, N.Y. / White Plains ) continued his strong play, grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds to go with seven points.
Isaiah Ice ( Bronx, N.Y. / Iona Prep ) added nine points, going three-for-three from long range.
Fredonia (2-14 SUNYAC / 4-18 overall) kept up with the Dragons in the second half, but could not fight back from the early deficit.
For the game, the Devils made only three trips to the foul line, going one of three. Cortland shot 13 of 14 from the charity stripe. Cortland also used the long ball to its advantage, connecting for 12 threes, while the Devils hit for seven.
The Devils continued a strong effort on the boards, again outrebounding their opponent, 33-31.
After Cortland's initial outburst, Fredonia fought back into the game, trailing by just three points, 15-12, following a 10-2 run. However, Cortland upped its lead to 21 by the half.
They outscored Fredonia 32-30 in the second half.
Cortland (11-4 / 16-6) was led by James Morales and Carrel Joseph with 16 points apiece.
The Devils are at Oswego on Saturday.
