Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late lead does not hold

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- A three pointer by Dante' Williams with 47 seconds left gave the Devils a one-point lead, but they could not hang on in a 76-73 loss at Oswego on Saturday. Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) had 12 points and four assists, and Jonathan McDonald (Brooklyn, N.Y. / High School for Public Service) and Isaiah Ice (Bronx, N.Y. / Iona Prep) each had 11 points.

Williams' bucket put the Devils up 73-72. Later, with 15 seconds remaining, Oswego fouled McDonald for a one-and-one. McDonald missed the shot and Oswego grabbed the rebound. After a missed three attempt, Oswego's Jamir Ferbee grabbed the board and then assisted Tyler Pierre on a go-ahead layup.

Fredonia (2-5 SUNYAC, 4-19 overall) turned the ball over on the next possession, before Schupp made a pair of free throws to close out the game.

Oswego (9-7 / 12-11) led the game for the first 17:28, but never by more than eight points.

Down 37-34 late in the first, the Devils went on a 6-0 run. Helps made two field goals and McDonald converted two free throws as Fredonia took its first lead of the game.

Fredonia eventually went up by nine points after an 18-6 run from the end of the first through the first 6:00 of the second half. They led 52-43 with 13:48 to go following a dunk by Justin Tapper.

With 4:08 left to play, Oswego began a seven-point run -- all from the free-throw line -- to take a one point lead, 65-64..

There were four lead changes and two ties to finish the game.

Oswego was led by Schupp with 25 points and Ferbee with 18 points.

Fredonia had a solid night from the floor, hitting on 49 percent of its shots, including seven of 17 from three point range. Oswego was five of 17 on three pointers and shot 44 percent from the floor.

Oswego outrebounded Fredonia, 38-30, and outscored them 17-8 from the free-throw line.

The Devils finish their season next weekend at home vs. Buffalo State.
