BEXLEY, OH. -- After having its five-game win streak snapped the day before, the Fredonia women's basketball team used a 78-73 win over Wooster to start a new streak.
Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake) led the Devils with a 28-point, 15-rebound effort.
Rae White (North Collins, N.Y. / Lake Shore) added 15 points, four assists, and three steals.
The early going was back and forth with neither team leading by more than three points until the 1:32 mark. Tied at 10, Wooster scored seven straight points to take its biggest lead of the quarter. A three-point play by Fredonia's
Braelin Scott made it 17-14 at the end of the first.
Tied at 22-all in the second, Wooster went on a 10-1 run to take a nine-point lead, 32-23.
The Devils had a rally of their own, closing the half by scoring the next 10 points to take a 33-32 lead into the locker room.
The game was nip and tuck in the third quarter with five ties and six lead changes. Fredonia ended the third up three, 54-51. Einink poured in 12 points in the third.
Fredonia would open the fourth quarter scoring the first eight points for an 11-point lead, 62-51.The Devils would match that lead at the 3:22 mark, going up 70-59 following a free throw by Einink. Wooster closed within five points by the final buzzer.
Wooster falls to 4-8. Kyle Croxton led the team with 19 points, and Jenna Stanton had 15 off the bench.
The Devils improve to 6-4. They are off until Jan. 8 when they play host to Geneseo as part of a women's/men's doubleheader.
