UTICA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia men's basketball team dropped an 88-63 decision to Utica on Saturday.
Matt Perez (Miami, Fla. / Florida Christian) came off the bench to lead the Devils with 14 points.
Isaiah Ice (Bronx, N.Y. / Iona Prep) added 11 points and four assists, and
Bediako Nyasa (Harlem, N.Y. / Walton) added 10 points and three assists.
Utica (6-2) opened the game with a pair of threes to take a 6-0 lead. Fredonia responded with a pair of threes from Ice and Nyasa to tie the game at 6-all.
Utica would hit the fifth three of the game to take a 9-6 lead it would hold the rest of the game. The Pioneers led 44-25 at the half. The Devil offense struggled shooting 29 percent from the field at the break.
The Devils heated up the second half, hitting 50 percent of its shots, but Utica was nearly as hot, and outscored the Devils 44-38 in the frame.
The Devils fell to 0-8 and take on the loser fo the Anna Maria/Vassar game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
