BEXLEY, Oh. -- The Fredonia women's basketball team was coming off a 20-day layoff following finals, and had trouble mustering much offense in a 68-32 loss vs. Capital (Ohio) on Friday evening in the Marriot Columbus Airport Holiday Tournament hosted by Capital.
Sarah Sweazy (Rochester, N.Y. / Rush Henrietta) led the Devils with nine points, six steals, and five rebounds.
The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Devils.
Fredonia (5-4) was slowed by 11 of 53 shooting (21 percent) from the field, while Capital was 28 of 57 (49 percent) from the floor.
The hosts jumped out to a 12-8 lead after one quarter. They outscored the Devils in the next two quarters as well, leading 40-25 heading in to the final frame. Capital exploded in the fourth, outscoring Fredonia 28-7 in the final quarter.
Capital shot 64 percent (11 of 17), while Fredonia was just 2 of 11, in the fourth.
Rae White (North Collins, N.Y. / Lake Shore) added eight points and three steals, while
Katie Pitcher (Fulton, N.Y. / Hannibal) had five rebounds.
Capital (7-4) received 19 points from Elle Folan.
Fredonia plays Wooster in the consolation game tomorrow at 1:00.
