FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's volleyball took on one of the top teams in the region in RIT, who entered the game at 20-3, and played one of its most competitive matches of the season. The Devils dropped the first match, won the next two, before RIT prevailed by winning the final two sets.
 
SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown, N.Y. / Southwestern) led the Devils with 23 kills and Kailey Falk (York, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy) added 13. Defensively, Rachael Aiello (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) had 24 digs, and Emily Jones (Plainfield, Ill. / Joliet Catholic) had six blocks. 

In the first set, Fredonia led 20-19 late, before the Tigers rallied for a 25-21 win.

In the second set, the Devils were down 10-9, and would go on a 16-5 run to take the set by a score of 25-15.

The third set saw Fredonia down early, trailing 12-6. They would eventually tie it at 17-all. From there, 10 more lead changes took place before the Devils would come away 28-26 winners.

Fredonia nearly closed the match in the fourth set. They were up 20-17 before the Tigers ran off ran off six straight points to go up 23-20, and would go on to win 25-23.

RIT took control of the fifth set early.  They led 6-1 and 9-3, before finishing 15-9 winners.

Fredonia fell to 17-6 overall. RIT improves to 21-3.

Prior to the contest, Fredonia honored its two seniors -- Falk and Aiello -- who were playing their last regular-season home matches in Dods Hall. Fredonia may have an opportunity to return to Dods and play host to a home playoff match pending the outcome of this weekend's pool play.

The Devils travel to Geneseo to take on New Paltz, Plattsburgh, and Geneseo in the third round of pool play, which features the league's top three teams. Fredonia currently sits at 5-1 in the conference. New Paltz and Geneseo both stand at 6-0. The third and fourth seeds earn home semi-final matches, with the top two receiving a bye.
