OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia men's soccer team led 1-0 before allowing a pair of unanswered goals to fall at Oswego, 2-1, on Saturday. The loss eliminated the Blue Devils from playoff contention with just two games left to play.
Fredonia's
Matt Cullen (East Northport, N.Y. / East Northport) scored his second goal of the season in the 56th minute to stake the Devils to a 1-0 lead.
Just over five minutes later, Oswego's Sean Ormsby tied the game when he collected a rebound off his own header and knocked the ball just inside the right post in the 62nd minute.
The Lakers got the game-winner when Caleb Asamoah beat a defender for his third goal of the season. He was assisted by Jack Van Pelt.
Oswego had a 12-5 advantage in shots, with both team having three shots on goal. Fredonia held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Ty Bentham (Columbus, Ind. / Columbus North) had one save in goal. Oswego's Brian Terra made two saves.
The Devils play host to Potsdam and Plattsburgh next weekend.
